As Ireland faces increasing geopolitical uncertainty, evolving cyber threats, and growing pressure on critical infrastructure, resilience and security have never been more important for business and society. 

 

This session of The Dublin Agenda will explore the challenges and opportunities surrounding the protection of Ireland’s critical infrastructure, with a focus on energy resilience, national security, and the evolving risk landscape facing key sectors. 

 

Industry leaders and policymakers will share insights on strengthening Ireland’s infrastructure systems, safeguarding energy networks, and preparing for future disruptions in an increasingly interconnected world. 

 

Hear from Jacqui McCrum, Secretary General at the Department of Defence, where she leads the Department’s work across defence policy, national security, and strategic resilience. With extensive senior leadership experience across the Irish public sector, she brings valuable insight into the challenges and priorities shaping Ireland’s security and infrastructure landscape.

Jacqui McCrum, Secretary General, Department of Defence:
Mrs. Jacqui McCrum was appointed to the post of Secretary General of the Department 
of Defence in August, 2020, being the first female Secretary General of the Department in its history. In her capacity, she acts as the principal policy advisor to the Minister forDefence and as the Accounting Officer for all Defence expenditure. Prior to her appointment, Mrs. McCrum was the Deputy Secretary in the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection, the Director General and Accounting Officer in the Office of the Ombudsman, Offices of the Information Commissioner and Commissioner for Environmental Information, Standards in Public Office Commission, Referendum Commission and Commission for Public Service Appointments. She also held the position of Deputy Financial Services Ombudsman. The majority of her career was in financial services in London and Dublin. She lives in North Co Dublin, married to Maurice with two children, Cameron and Freya.


Mrs. McCrum holds an Institute of Directors Diploma in Company Management; a UCD/IPA Professional Diploma in Human Rights and Equality; Law Society of IrelandCertificate in Pensions Law and Practice; is a certified Mediator (Mediation Foundationof Ireland); University of Cambridge, Post Graduate Certificate in Sustainable Business

and a Diploma in Montessori Studies from The London Montessori Centre.
