"Moving Together – A Strategic Approach to the Improved Efficiency of the Transport System in Ireland" was recently published by the Department of Transport.

This draft policy outlines a plan to enhance the efficiency of Ireland's transport system, while mitigating the negative impacts of car dependency on the economy, the environment, and public health.

The call for submissions is now open and as part of our submission we want to get the views of members to inform any paper we submit on this issue. We would therefore like to invite you to a roundtable discussion which will be held online at 12pm on Friday 21st June.

The session will last approximately 60 minutes and we hope to have a robust exchange of views and sharing of business experiences. Discussions will be based on your individual input and broadly framed by the following questions:

Q1) The strategy recommends a polluter pays model, including a review of the current range of taxes and charges applying to transport particularly encouraging zero emission vehicles (VRT, motor tax, excise, carbon tax, tolls and VAT) and the introduction of congestion charging. How would this effect your business and what models should be looked at as an alternative?

Q2) The Strategy also details changes in deliveries and freight towards increasing the usage by businesses of rail-based freight. Would this be something that is viable for your business, and if not, why?

Q3) The reallocation of street space, reducing parking on street and delivery zones that will be shared is a recommendation. This is an issue that could adversely affect many businesses in many sectors. Is this something that your business would be concerned about, would this measure adversely affect your business and how would it do so?

Please register your interest in participating by emailing robyn@dublinchamber.ie. Attendance will be limited, so the remaining participant list will be filled on a first come first served basis.

I do hope that you are available to take part and provide your valuable insights and perspectives.
