Speaker

Devan Hughes, CEO & co-founder of buymie

buymie is Ireland and UK’s fastest-growing same-day large basket grocery delivery service. Founded in Dublin in 2016, buymie is now expanding rapidly, allowing more customers to order from their favourite large retailers and have their items delivered, store to door, in as little as an hour. Consumers have come to expect same-day grocery delivery and traditional retailers are constrained by marginal costs. Through the use of platform economics, buymie accelerates delivery while owning no vans, no stores or holding any stock. buymie raised €8m during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic and launched its service into Cork, Limerick and Galway as well as Bristol in the UK. The buymie service has now been used by 1 in 10 households in Dublin.
Devan Hughes has extensive experience in commercial and operational efficiency with specific expertise in platform economics and architecture.
Having also held the role of Chairman for Sharing Economy Ireland, Devan is a recognised thought leader in the Platform Economy and FMCG industry.

Sonya Lennon, Founder, Lennon Courtney

Sonya Lennon has over thirty years of experience in business as a creative director, designer, broadcaster, entrepreneur, strategic consultant and speaker. A multi-award-winning Social Entrepreneur, Sonya founded the global not for profit initiative Dress for Success in Ireland in 2011 which has successfully supported over 3,000 women into employment and economic independence. In 2021 it rebranded as Work Equal to better reflect the advocacy role of the organisation.
Through her advocacy work, she has campaigned at a European level for gender equality in the workplace by addressing the Gender Pay & Opportunity Gap. Since 2016, Sonya has led the highly publicised #WorkEqual campaign in Ireland. Through this campaign, she has spearheaded public awareness, highlighted legacy and cultural issues that prevent workplace equality and focussed on solutions to address them. Sonya has presented the issue on multiple occasions to the Irish Government and at the European Parliament. Recent wins saw the Gender Pay Gap Bill brought into legislation following a five-year campaign.
The inaugural #WorkEqual Conference in 2019 saw her bring together international speakers and diverse stakeholders to ratify priority issues and recommendations. This culminated in a post-conference report titled Practical Steps to Workplace Equality co-authored with Professor Michelle Millar NUIG. This document has been submitted to the Irish government as a framework to accelerate positive change.
