Thursday, 22nd February 2024: Tonight, over 600 businesses will gather at Dublin Chamber’s 2024 AGM dinner, sponsored by EY, where incoming Dublin Chamber President Siobhan O’Shea is expected to put the spotlight on Dublin’s “vulnerabilities”, which include housing, infrastructure, and the current skills crisis. O’Shea will caution against the danger of delaying Dublin's growth by not addressing these crucial areas effectively, referencing current constraints on housing growth in Dublin and the chronically delayed delivery of major public infrastructure projects like MetroLink and Dart Plus. Dublin’s water supply is expected to receive a notable mention, alongside the issue of safety in Dublin and the need for a Directly Elected Mayor, a topical subject given the potential of a mayoral vote later this year.
However, it's not all cautionary; O’Shea is also expected to celebrate Dublin's diversity, community strength, and the city's competitive edge and economic resurgence post-Covid. She will expand upon Dublin's global reputation as an economic powerhouse, attributing much of this success to its diverse and innovative workforce. Stressing the importance of inclusivity and community, O’Shea will call for new initiatives to leverage the diverse talents that underpin Dublin’s economic vitality.
Taoiseach Leo Varadkar will deliver his own address tonight to the 600 business leaders attending Dublin Chamber’s 2024 AGM Dinner.
