26th July 2022: Dublin Chamber welcomes the NTA’s preliminary business case for Metro Link, published today.
Commenting on the NTA’s publication, Stephen Browne, Head of Public Affairs at Dublin Chamber noted "Dublin Chamber has long advocated the construction of an underground rail link between North County Dublin and the city centre, including a stop at Dublin Airport. Following many false dawns over the past two decades, we are delighted to see that progress is being made on the project.”
“MetroLink will be one of the biggest and most ambitious projects ever delivered in Ireland. The merits of the project are multifaceted- it will make travel around Dublin easier, it will address Dublin’s congestion problems, and it will lower Dublin’s CO2 emissions.”
Dublin Chamber’s vision for Dublin, is to be a city that offers a high quality of life with a world class transport system. In order for that vision to become a reality it is vital that Dublin becomes an easy city to move around and where short, consistent commute times are the norm. Dublin is significantly behind where it needs to be, in this regard as a result of due to severe under-investment in our public transport infrastructure over recent years. This is a major frustration for businesses and for citizens. The delivery of projects such as MetroLink are key to that ambition being realised. and Dublin and its businesses cannot afford further delays in its delivery.
Whilst the publication of the business case for MetroLink marks a significant step forward for the project, Dublin Chamber calls for no further unnecessary delays to the process and that delivery targets are met in good time.
Browne further commented: “Dublin Chamber now calls for MetroLink to move swiftly to the planning stage, to ensure that there are no more setbacks to its delivery.”
