Dublin Chamber has welcomed the Government's decision to progress MetroLink through AG2, saying the focus must now be on delivering the project and avoiding further delays to critical infrastructure for the capital.

Stephen Browne, Head of Public Affairs at Dublin Chamber, said:

“MetroLink represents a significant investment; this recognises Dublin cannot meet the needs of a growing population and economy without investing in major infrastructure. The focus now must be on maintaining momentum, securing value through the procurement process and getting MetroLink built. The answer to rising infrastructure costs cannot be to delay essential infrastructure indefinitely. Dublin's population, housing needs and economy continue to grow and the cost of congestion and inadequate transport capacity grows with them.”

“MetroLink will provide capacity for up to 20,000 passengers per hour in each direction, connect Dublin Airport directly to the rail network and support the delivery of tens of thousands of new homes. Dublin has been discussing a metro for decades. Today's decision marks a shift from discussion to delivery.”

“The priority now should be maintaining momentum, driving competition through procurement and delivering MetroLink as efficiently and quickly as possible.”
