Dublin Chamber has welcomed the publication of the Government’s priorities for Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The programme reflects many of the recommendations put forward by Dublin Chamber members and provides an opportunity to strengthen Europe’s competitiveness at a critical time.

Stephen Browne, Head of Public Affairs at Dublin Chamber, said:

“Dublin Chamber welcomes the Government’s focus on competitiveness as a central theme of Ireland’s EU Presidency. As Ireland’s economic engine and home to many of the country’s largest employers, decisions taken at EU level have a direct impact on Dublin’s ability to attract investment, create jobs and support economic growth.

“It is encouraging to see many of the priorities identified by Dublin Chamber members reflected in the Government’s programme. In our submission, we called for a stronger focus on competitiveness, regulatory simplification, access to finance, digital innovation and energy security. These are all areas where meaningful progress can help improve the current operating environment for businesses across Dublin and the Greater Dublin Area.”

Dublin Chamber noted that Ireland’s Presidency comes at an important moment for Europe as policymakers seek to respond to growing global competition and to strengthen economic resilience.

“The Presidency presents Ireland with an opportunity to help shape a more competitive and outward-looking Europe. Progress on reducing unnecessary regulatory burdens, strengthening the Single Market, improving access to capital and accelerating investment in energy and digital infrastructure will be important not only for Europe, but for Dublin’s future growth and competitiveness.

“Dublin Chamber looks forward to engaging with Government throughout the Presidency to ensure the priorities of Dublin’s business community continue to inform Ireland’s leadership at EU level.”
