Dublin Chamber has welcomed the submission of a planning application by Uisce Éireann for the Eastern and Midlands Water Supply Project, a landmark infrastructure initiative that will unlock land with permission for tens of thousands of homes across the Greater Dublin Area and the wider Eastern and Midlands region. The submission of this planning application marks a crucial milestone in addressing long-standing capacity constraints and aligns with the urgent need to support housing delivery.
Stephen Browne, Head of Public Affairs at Dublin Chamber, said “We welcome the submission of this planning application by Uisce Éireann. This project is a vital investment in Ireland’s water infrastructure and is central to maintaining the liveability and competitiveness of Dublin and the surrounding region. Timely planning and delivery are essential to ensure that water capacity keeps pace with demand from businesses, and to unlock critical housing development.”
“It is encouraging to see this step forward,” Mr Browne added. “We now urge all stakeholders to maintain momentum through the planning process. Infrastructure of national importance requires a planning system that is efficient, clear and aligned with broader economic objectives and the common good.”
Dublin Chamber has consistently called for infrastructure that supports long term resilience. The Eastern and Midlands Water Supply Project, alongside investments in water conservation, leakage reduction and demand management, will provide critical capacity for decades to come.
Dublin Chamber looks forward to working constructively with Uisce Éireann, Government agencies, and local authorities as this planning application is considered.
