Dublin Chamber strongly supports the ratification of the Mercosur trade deal, a landmark agreement offering significant economic and strategic benefits for Ireland and the European Union, and encourages the Government to ratify the trade deal as soon as practicable. Mary Rose Burke, CEO said “As a small, open economy, Ireland depends on international trade. The Mercosur agreement opens new markets, drives growth, and creates opportunities for Irish businesses and citizens”.
“The deal strengthens trade between the EU and Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay, creating a combined market of over 780 million people. Irish businesses can access 270million new customers and build on the cultural and historical ties between Ireland and South America. Diversifying trade partners is crucial in today’s uncertain global economy. Expanding beyond traditional markets mitigates risks and enhances Ireland’s economic resilience, helping our businesses remain competitive".
"This agreement reinforces the EU’s role as a leader in global trade. By participating, Ireland amplifies its influence and strengthens its position as a forward-thinking trading nation. The inclusion of social, environmental, and labour conditions ensures that trade growth aligns with sustainable development, protecting workers and the environment while promoting climate action”.
Mary Rose Burke concluded, “Policymakers must recognise the transformative potential of this deal. Supporting the Mercosur agreement means Ireland commits to free and fair trade, economic diversification, and global collaboration. This deal ensures a resilient economy, positioning Ireland as a progressive, globally engaged nation. Dublin Chamber envisions a city renowned for economic vitality and quality of life. The Mercosur deal supports this vision by fostering growth, innovation, and job creation. Strengthening trade relations with South America helps Dublin remain dynamic, outward-facing, and resilient to global challenges, securing prosperity for all who live work and run a business in our capital city”.
