Green Public Procurement Strategy and Action Plan for 2024-2027

The Green Public Procurement Strategy and Action Plan for 2024-2027 was approved this month, which is aimed at promoting environmentally friendly purchasing practices in the public sector.

This strategy replaces the more than a decade old ‘Green Tenders’ policy.  Green public procurement commitments have become embedded in key areas of Government policy including Ireland’s first Whole-of-Government Circular Economy Strategy, the Climate Action Plan, and the Waste Action Plan for a Circular Economy. The new strategy aims to increase Green Public Procurement implementation across the public sector, playing a key role in moving Ireland to a more sustainable model of production and consumption, as well as transitioning towards a circular economy.

Key aspects of the new strategy include implementation measures particularly in relation to the public sector, Green Public Procurement training and awareness for the purpose of monitoring and reporting, and engagement with markets and innovation.

For more information, the plan is available to read here.

On Wednesday 8th of May, Dublin Chamber will be hosting a virtual workshop on Green Public Procurement as part of our Sustainable Academy, sponsored by AIB. Providing insight into how companies can bid and win new contracts with the public sector, as this sector aims to source goods, services, or works with a reduced environmental impact.
