Griffith College Celebrates 50 Years as a Leading Higher Education Institution

Griffith College, Ireland’s largest independent higher education institution, celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2024. To mark this important milestone, the College will host a GC50 Business Breakfast at its South Circular Road, Dublin campus on Thursday, 1st February.

Simon Harris, T.D., Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science will give the keynote speech. The event will be attended by representatives from the business, education and arts sectors, members of the local Dublin 8 community, along with current and former staff of the college.

Congratulating the College on its achievements over the past fifty years, Minister Simon Harris, T.D., said: “Over the past five decades Griffith College has been at the forefront of innovative education provision, remaining relevant and responsive as society and the economy have evolved and changed in unexpected ways. It’s inspiring to see how the college is always working to deliver programmes in a way that works for the learners, most recently by launching national apprenticeships in bar management and healthcare.”

Professor Diarmuid Hegarty, President of Griffith College, said: “Griffith College has achieved much over the past half century. This has been founded on three key pillars – a clear focus on our learners, an agility in responding to their needs and the needs of industry, and the dedication and commitment of the College’s staff. These strengths will stand to us as we embrace the challenges and opportunities of the next fifty years.”

Founded in 1974 by Professor Diarmuid Hegarty, Griffith College enjoys a national and a growing international reputation for student success. Many alumni have gone on to distinguished careers in fields as diverse as accountancy, business, computing, design, engineering, law, politics and media.

Griffith College offers internationally recognised postgraduate and undergraduate degree programmes, complemented by a wide range of professional, short term and corporate training educational solutions. Today, over 7,000 students are studying in the College, which is a designated educational institution of Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI). The College has campuses in Dublin, Cork and Limerick.
