SSE Airtricity welcomes the ambition of the Large Energy-User Action Plan, and its focus on enabling sustainable economic growth and championing new sustainability resolutions. As Ireland continues to position itself as a global hub for innovation, technology, and green investment, this Plan seeks to balance the need for investment with energy system security. It points to how joined‑up policy can support our energy goals and further economic development for Ireland.

Ireland’s tech sector has become one of the most dynamic in Europe, attracting world‑leading companies and fostering a thriving ecosystem of start‑ups, research centres, and digital infrastructure. This growth brings enormous opportunity, but it also increases demand for secure, affordable, low‑carbon energy. The LEAP report recognises this dual challenge, outlining a coordinated approach that seeks to align energy policy, planning, and investment with the needs of a modern, digital economy.

At SSE Airtricity, we support this integrated vision. Ensuring that businesses, particularly those in high‑growth, energy‑intensive sectors, can rely on resilient, renewable power is essential for sustaining investment and maintaining Ireland’s reputation as a world‑class destination for innovation.

The report highlights the importance of aligning significant energy demands with renewable generation sources and addressing obstacles in grid and infrastructure planning. Reflecting the reality that Ireland must move faster and more cohesively if we are to meet climate targets while supporting economic expansion. By fostering collaboration between government, regulators, industry, and communities, Ireland has the potential to harness its natural resources and establish a clean, secure energy system that ensures long-term prosperity.

Nikki Flanders, Managing Director SSE Energy Customer Solutions welcomed the publication of the LEAP report, stating: “With the LEAP, Ireland has the opportunity to become a pioneer in sustainable development, , and technological innovation. SSE Airtricity has long championed the transition to a clean and secure power future, and we see the LEAP report as a catalyst for the next phase of Ireland’s energy journey.

“Of particular note, is the report’s recognition of the interdependence between energy and the digital economy. Data centres, AI development, cloud services, and advanced manufacturing all rely on stable, low‑carbon electricity. By aligning energy planning with economic strategy, Ireland can continue to attract high‑value investment while ensuring that growth is underpinned by sustainability.”

The path ahead requires collaboration, ambition, and a willingness to embrace new solutions. SSE Airtricity stands ready to play its part, working with government, policymakers, industry partners, and communities to deliver the energy and innovation needed for a secure, green, and prosperous future.
