Minister for Transport, Darragh O’Brien T.D., has secured Cabinet approval to advance legislation addressing the passenger cap at Dublin Airport - a key step toward ensuring Ireland’s main international gateway can continue to grow sustainably and support the national economy.
This move follows a long period of uncertainty surrounding passenger capacity limits at the airport. Minister O’Brien emphasised that Government recognises Dublin Airport’s strategic importance as the country’s primary international hub and a driver of trade, tourism, and investment. The proposed legislation aims to provide clarity for all stakeholders, while the daa continues its planning application for the development of a suite of infrastructure projects at the airport to facilitate growth.
The Minister also announced plans to establish a Stakeholder Forum to help guide progress on the planning process and ensure open dialogue between Government, the daa, and key industry partners. In addition, the Government confirmed that the review of the National Aviation Policy and the development of a long-term strategy for Ireland’s regional airports will also move forward in parallel, ensuring a coordinated national approach to aviation and capacity planning.
Dublin Chamber welcomes this progress and will continue to engage with Government to ensure that the passenger cap at Dublin Airport is lifted without delay.
