On July 8th, Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment, Peter Burke, welcomed the publication of Ireland’s Competitiveness Challenge 2025 Report by the National Competitiveness and Productivity Council (NCPC). This year’s report sets out the key issues facing the Irish economy over the medium and long term, all with a clear emphasis on controlling the controllable. The report’s actions focus on exercising restraint in fiscal policy, addressing the cost of doing business, taking immediate action on infrastructural deficits, future-proofing the workforce, and investing in digitalisation.
While highlighting Ireland’s strong performance, including its 7th place global ranking in the IMD World Competitiveness Rankings, the report cautions that we must not take our strong position for granted, particularly given the highly competitive and uncertain global context that we find ourselves in currently. Speaking on the report, Minister Burke said that the report will be an important input into the development of the Action Plan on Competitiveness and Productivity, which will be published later this year.
