Accelerating Infrastructure: Breaking the Bottlenecks

Back to Articles

24 June 2025

Delivering critical infrastructure and housing at speed is the defining challenge of our time. For Dublin Chamber members, fast-tracking projects across transport, water, and energy has long been a key priority, and one that underpinned our recent engagement with Minister Jack Chambers at the National Economic Dialogue. There, we highlighted the persistent barriers and constraints in Ireland’s planning system and called for urgent reform to streamline regulatory processes, enabling faster delivery of essential housing, energy, water, and transport infrastructure. Read back on our remarks here.

Our meeting at the National Economic Dialogue was one of two key engagements with Minister Chambers this month. On 19th June, the Minister addressed Dublin Chamber members, outlining his priorities for his new Department. The discussion centred around accelerating the delivery of the critical infrastructure underpinning housing development in Ireland, as well as progressing the Dublin City Taskforce recommendations, and driving digitalisation across all sectors.

To help overcome the systemic roadblocks that delay vital projects, Minister Chambers also noted his recent establishment of an Accelerating Infrastructure Taskforce, and Dublin Chamber is actively contributing to the work of this group. Just this week, we convened a session with Dublin Chamber members and taskforce representative Sean O’Driscoll to put forward practical, high-impact proposals that will directly inform the taskforce’s agenda.

We will also make a formal submission to the ongoing public consultation on Accelerating Infrastructure, drawing on feedback from our members. Our submission will spotlight priority projects that urgently need fast-tracking, including:

  • The Eastern and Midlands Water Supply Project

  • The Dublin Drainage Scheme

  • EirGrid’s Powering Up Dublin Project

  • MetroLink

  • BusConnects

  • Dart+ South West and Costal North

  • Luas extensions to Finglas, Poolbeg, and Bray
