The Department of the Environment, Climate & Communications recently launched the Small-Scale Renewable Electricity Support Scheme (SRESS), an initiative designed to support SMEs, farmers and communities who wish to generate renewable electricity for export to the national grid. SRESS offers guaranteed tariff support for 15 years to export-only renewable electricity generators ranging in capacity from 50kW up to 6MW. This scheme presents a valuable opportunity for SMEs who may have unutilised rooftop space or land. For instance, a 50kW rooftop or ground-mounted installation requires just 125 to 200 solar panels. That’s the equivalent of 250-300 m2 of roof space, around the size of a double tennis court.
To apply for SRESS, applicants must complete the application form, which can be accessed here. Completed application forms and any additional queries relating to the scheme can be directed to sress@decc.gov.ie.
