Catastrophic floods struck northern and central Nepal on 26 August, causing widespread destruction. More than 900 people have been killed and approximately 4,247 remain missing, with the numbers expected to rise as search operations continue. An estimated 65,000 people, including 22,100 children, have been affected.  

UNICEF teams are on the ground, working alongside the Government and partners to reach affected children and families, including in hard-to-reach areas where roads and bridges have been damaged.  

Pre-positioned supplies have enabled UNICEF to respond immediately. However, additional resources are urgently needed to sustain and scale up the response as access improves and humanitarian needs become clearer. So far:

• 19,000 people have been reached with WASH support including hygiene kits, soap and water purification products
• 433 bed nets, 500 newborn kits and 3 medical tents have been dispatched
• 500 cartons of ready-to-use-therapeutic food have been delivered
• 237 children have received mental health and psychosocial support
