Business leaders from Ireland and the United States came together at Elm Park Golf & Sports Club for the 2026 Gateway Cup, a Ryder Cup-style event celebrating the enduring relationship between both countries through sport, networking and philanthropy.
The event welcomed representatives from business, government and sport for a day that combined friendly competition with meaningful relationship building. Beyond the golf, the Gateway Cup provided an opportunity for leaders from both sides of the Atlantic to strengthen existing connections, establish new partnerships and celebrate the close economic and cultural ties between Ireland and the United States.
On the course, the competition delivered a dramatic finish. Captained by legendary Irish athlete Eamonn Coghlan, Team Ireland secured a hard-fought 17-15 victory over Team USA, led by U.S. Ambassador Edward Sharp Walsh. With the outcome resting on the final group, spectators were treated to one of the closest contests in the event's history.
The afternoon concluded with a barbecue reception, networking event, prize presentation and charity auction in support of the Irish American Partnership, helping to raise funds for educational initiatives across Ireland.
A special acknowledgement goes to Senator Aubrey McCarthy, who served as both Master of Ceremonies and auctioneer. His warmth, humour and enthusiasm kept the afternoon flowing while helping to deliver a successful fundraising auction.
