Plan Ireland is delighted to invite you to this important talk that will see Salil Shetty, Director of the United Nations Millennium Campaign, address a cross section of key stakeholders and decision maker from Irish society on the campaign’s task to attain the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and to End Poverty by 2015.
Salil Shetty joined the United Nations as a Director of the Millennium Campaign in October 2003 after two decades as a recognised civil society leader.
He has played a pivotal role in the global advocacy campaign for the achievement of the MDGs in over 50 countries. This powerful anti-poverty campaign is a unique global partnership of the UN with NGOs, trade unions, faith groups, local authorities and the media, calling for greater accountability from governments in the fight against hunger, disease and illiteracy.
End poverty by 2015 – This is the task set out for the Millennium Campaign. It is the historic promise 189 world leaders made at the United Nations Millennium summit in 2000 when they agreed to meet the MDGs. The UN’s Millennium Campaign supports and inspires people from around the world to take action in support of the MDGs.
Mr Shetty’s address will enable you to hear, first-hand, of the relative success and failures of the campaign.
