Learning to sail and enjoy the outstanding waters of the East Coast is the aim of ‘SailStart’, an introductory adult sailing course being organised by Malahide Yacht Club, starting this January.
Have you ever thought about sailing as a hobbie and want to enjoy some of the great natural resources on your doorstep in Fingal.
The one-night a week, 12-week course will be given by some of the Club’s most experienced sailors, with guest experts brought in for talks on specific subjects. It will cover such topics as theory, weather, safety, clothing & equipment, basic navigation and, most importantly, finishing with some practical sailing experience on the water.
The shore-based course, which starts on Thursday 21st January and will run every Thursday until late March, costs €120 (equivalent of €10 per night). Participants who subsequently want to continue sailing are welcome to join Malahide Yacht . Participants have a great opportunity to join a regular yacht crew, racing or cruising in 2010.
According to course organisers, the course is designed to give newcomers a real flavour of sailing and encourage their participation in a healthy, relaxing activity, which can also be a very competitive sport for those who wish to race.
Malahide Yacht Club celebrated its 50th Anniversary in 2008 and is one of the leading sports clubs in the Malahide area in terms of competitive success over the years.
Applications forms are available on www.myc.ie or at the clubhouse in St. James’ Terrace, Malahide. For further information the Club’s ‘SailStart’ course contact David Farrell on 086-255 7120 or e-mail myccruising@gmail.com
